At the genital mutilation of girls in early ages is to control the future of women's feelings and sex drive. Their view of women is degrading. Women should be a property, and only to satisfy the man. The woman's dreams of love will not be an issue. Without thinking about the difficult physical and psychological consequences are still places with female genital mutilation.

Today we started publishing our series report on genital mutilation in Southern Kurdistan. The report consists of statisticians over the affected areas, the victims' comments and interviews with various organizations.

The purpose of this report series is to arouse a debate the issues surrounding female genital mutilation in Southern Kurdistan (Iraq).

According to statistics 60% of girls and children have been injured in South Kurdistan because of genital mutilation.

Genital mutilation is barbaric crimes pending against girls in different parts of the world. It is part of the violence directed against girls and women. Through cooperation between official and unofficial organizations can stop the crime. We need more cooperation to achieve the objective and stand against violence.

We have also started a campaign against genital mutilation in Kurdistan.

Genital mutilation is not culture. It is a serious crime. Children and women's rights before the fictional culture and faith!

We demand of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament and Government - KRG to immediately put a total end to female genital mutilation. Laws must be enacted against female genital mutilation and the guilty must be prosecuted and punished. For a systematic monitoring, a supervisory authority is organized.
